Character Connection is a weekly meme hosted by Jen at The Introverted Reader every Thursday. It’s where we get to discuss our favorite book characters and what we love about them!
I am a huge fan of this series, but I’ve only read the first three books which make up their own individual trilogy. I have the next trilogy sitting on my shelf, and talking about them now is making me think I should get to them sooner rather then later.
When you pick up these books, you are immediately swept up into a world which I can promise is completely unique and unlike anything else you’ll have ever read. A word of warning though – it is an adult series with seriously adult themes.
Joscelin Verreuil is part of an elite group of guards who are trained from a young age to protect their assigned charges at all cost – even if it means killing them and then yourself if all hope is lost. Joscelin is assigned to guard Phedre, a one-of-a-kind woman, and the main character of the first three books of the series. At first, they do not get along at all…and then as the plot of the first book, Kushiel’s Dart, unfolds – they are forced to work together when they are plunged into governmental intrigue that goes deeper then they ever could have imagined.
Joscelin’s character is stubborn, serious and always loyal. As his character develops, he changes when he realizes things aren’t always as they seem and he learns to relax his guard and his prejudices.
He is amazing, and definitely features on the high end of my book crush list. This is definitely the kind of series you either love or hate, and even when people don’t love the series like I do, they still can’t resist Joscelin.
I definitely recommend checking the books out, but they definitely aren’t for everyone!
