Blair Mallory Character Connection

Character Connection is a weekly meme hosted by Jen at The Introverted Reader every Thursday. It’s where we get to discuss our favorite book characters and what we love about them!

I am a pretty big fan of Linda Howard, an adult romantic suspense novelist. She is hit-or-miss. Some of her books strike me as awful, but on the other hand, I reread several of her books on a regular basis.

Of all of them, the two that feature Blair Mallory as an MC are perhaps my favorites. To Die For and Drop Dead Gorgeous are entertaining, romantic and absolutely hilarious. Blair has such a vibrant and wonderful personality: her inner monologue is so fun and distinctive. She is completely addicting, and it doesn’t take more than a couple of pages to fall in love with her.

Blair Mallory is (in some ways) the stereotypical blonde: former cheerleader, preppy and very involved with her appearance. But you can definitely leave off the “dumb” part of the usual definition – because Blair is anything but. When there is a murder at the fitness club she owns, she is thrown back into contact with a police lieutenant she dated two years before the start of the book – before being unceremoniously tossed aside. She is in for a big surprise: Wyatt Bloodsworth wants her back and isn’t going to take no for an answer.

They are amazing together: I love how they interact. He brings out the best (and the worst) in Blair, because she never stops plotting out ways to try and get the best of him. But even when they fight, it is obvious that they love being together.

It is impossible not to want more and more of Blair Mallory. I dare you to finish Drop Dead Gorgeous and not bemoan the fact that you’ve finished her story.

I know I find it hard to enjoy a Romance novel when I can't relate to the heroine. These Linda Howard titles sound like a sure thing: a great love story with a wonderful character.

And I've found that some of my favourite Romances were written by authors who are "hit-and-miss" to me. When they miss, they really miss, but when they hit, oh! =)
