Movie and book spoilers, so read at your own risk!
First and foremost (for me)…thank you screenwriters (or whoever makes these decisions), for the love of all the good in the world, for finally letting Dobby have his moment to be the hero. He deserved it, and if you’d left him out there would’ve been no place on this world to hide that I wouldn’t have hunted you down to kick you in the shins. I absolutely love what they did with his character too, he was hilarious!
Actually…a big chunk of the movie was pretty hilarious. Impressive, what with a massive war and overall depressing plot line.
Bellatrix continues to seem about 35 times more evil and loony than Voldemort. She is awesome.
Everything covered in this movie was very accurate to the book, as far as I can remember. Although I have to say…I’m not sure how much I’d have enjoyed some parts if I wasn’t a massive HP fan to begin with. Especially if I hadn’t read the books. I think this was the worst movie for not fully explaining things. Like…never clarifying that saying Voldemort’s name alerts Death Eaters to your presence, (although that was implied I guess, especially at the Lovegood’s). Also…I don’t think it was ever explained in the past movies that Harry is Kreacher’s master was it? But…the biggest thing was the Bellatrix freak out and the way they called the goblin up from the dungeon. I’m sure they’ll explain that it revolved around the sword in the second half of the movie, but I’m not sure how smart it was to leave people that didn’t know that hanging.
I loved…LOVED…the whole part where they (Harry, Hermoine, Ron) infiltrate the Ministry to get the locket. That was an amazing scene. I also loved Neville on the train, that kid rocks. Can’t wait to see more of him in the second half.
The one huge issue I had was the WEIRD Harry/Hermoine sexual scene that was depicted when the horcrux was trying to control Ron. That was very odd. Come to think about it, it was also pretty weird when the two of them danced in the tent…at the very least, it was awkward. She should definitely have told him to stop doing that weird twisty thing…what WAS that?
I also wish they’d messed up Bill’s face a little more. I mean, three wimpy scars? Come on. He is supposed to look way worse than that. So weird this is the first movie he has been in anyway, wish they’d brought him in for Goblet of Fire and Half Blood Prince.
The way they left Harry and his posse at the end was a huge downer, but the big dramatic Voldemort moment was a good one to end on I guess. It sure was abrupt though. Everyone in my theatre was like “No, don’t do it. Don’t do it. It better not end here…AAAAUGH!”
So…the movie was pretty good, but I’d bet the farm that the second half will blow it away.
