Character Connection is a weekly meme hosted by Jen at The Introverted Reader every Thursday. It’s where we get to discuss our favorite book characters and what we love about them!
Vampire Academy series spoilers ahead, so don’t read if you haven’t finished the series!
I don’t think I have ever in my life been so desperate for two characters to be together as Rose Hathaway and Dimitri. Really. After the third book in the series, Shadow Kiss, ended…I felt Harry-Potter-strength desire for the next book. That, my friends, is about the highest compliment I could give a series.
Rose Hathaway is an awesome character. She is bitchy, sarcastic and bull-headed to the point of needing to be slapped on a regular basis. She also kicks ass, is obsessively loyal and has the luck of being attached to the ultimate book crush – Dimitri. (Swoon, I would have written a character post about him, but I was afraid the blog post title would be a giveaway as to how the series ends for people that haven’t read it. See how nice I am?)
From the first page of Vampire Academy to the last page of Last Sacrifice, I 100% loved Rose. I didn’t blame her when she got sidetracked into a relationship with Adrian – hey, he is hot too! I loved the way he called her “Little Dhampir.” But…seriously. Unless you are nuts, you know it was always going to be Dimitri for her. No question. I could happily read a 4,000 page book devoted just to Rose and Dimitri’s relationship. Love them.
Anyway. I would love the series for them alone, but Richelle Mead didn’t stop there. She also makes sure that the books are drenched in action and political drama as well. Breaking criminals out of jail? Check. Stealing C-4 and blowing structures up? Check. Grand theft auto? Check. Piles of dead bodies lying around? Check. There isn’t much Rose wouldn’t do to protect the people she cares about…even though loyalty makes her reckless, she never loses sight of what she is fighting for.
