Author Q&A: Chloe Neill + Swag Giveaway

I’m so excited to have Chloe on the blog today, y’all! Her adult Chicagoland Vampires series is one of my absolute favorites, and she also has a bestselling YA series!

The newest Chicagoland Vampires series novel, Hard Bitten, will be released on May 3rd.

Chloe was born and raised in the South, but now makes her home in the Midwest, just close enough to Cadogan House and St. Sophia’s to keep an eye on things.  When not transcribing Merit’s and Lily’s adventures, She bakes (a lot!), watches entirely too much television, roots for her favorite college football team (Go Big Red!), spends time with friends and her beau, Jeremy, and plays with her dogs, Baxter and Scout.

1. What made you decide to include shapeshifters along with the vampires in the series? Do you prefer writing about one or the other, or is that just the way the world came together for you from the beginning?

The world came together that way for me from the beginning. The books are urban fantasy about a collection of supernatural beings in Chicago. It made sense to me that if vampires existed, so would other paranormal creatures. It definitely gives me a lot more to write about and hopefully creates interest for readers.

2. I recently read Hard Bitten – and about dropped dead from emotional overload. You didn’t exactly end on a cliffhanger – but you definitely leave us wanting more! How long had you planned ending the book the way you did?

Since the very beginning. I wasn’t sure the events of HARD BITTEN would occur in HARD BITTEN, but I knew they were going to occur. They’ve been inevitable since I conceived the series. :)

3. Did you have any idea when you started writing that your characters would cause such an emotional response in readers?

I am always flattered to learn that people are emotionally struck by my books and characters. That’s the most an author can hope for–that a reader is moved by something they wrote. But it definitely still surprises me!

4. I know there is a planned number of books for the series, do you have everything planned out as to how you want things to end? Any spin-off potential?

I know generally how the arc will take place, but things fall together in each particular book on a book-by-book basis.I prep an individual outline for each book for my editor before I start writing.

5. If your book(s) were made into a movie, who would you cast to play Merit and Ethan?

David Beckham will always be Ethan to me, but Chris Hemsworth from the new Thor movie doesn’t have a bad look!  I like Jill Flint for Merit.

6. Read any good books lately?

I’m currently reading CHINA ROAD by Rob Gifford, which is a nonfiction account of his travels through China. Every informative!

Thanks for having me today!
