I’ll be saying it a hundred times – but it cannot be said enough. The Stephanie Plum series is hilarious, y’all. Like laugh-out-loud-embarrass-yourself-in-public-pee-a-little hilarious.
I’ve talked about the movie on the blog once before, but never really why I love the Stephanie Plum series so much (besides just the humor).
New Jersey is basically treated like a foreign country. The customs, the people, the language? All unique. I don’t have any experience with any of it – I’ve never visited Jersey. I’ll just take Janet Evanovich’s word for it though, because after this series I’m a little scared. The mob, the food, the crazy funeral-stalking grandmothers – all better in book form.
In the first book of the series, One For the Money, Stephanie Plum loses her job as a lingerie buyer. Desperate for money, she ends up working as a bounty hunter for her sleazy bail bondsman cousin Vinny. Just that description alone should tell you about the loads of funny you’re in store for. Seriously – Stephanie Plum is a walking disaster. She can barely drive around the block without something going wrong. Chasing after criminals? Forget about it.
Her first “criminal” turns out to be a cop. Joe Morelli. They have a history together. A humiliating history. He tricked his way into her pants. She “accidentally” runs him over in her father’s car. You know. The usual. (Except, for Stephanie Plum it really is the usual.)
Now add in Ranger – another hot guy Stephanie can’t quite resist. He is more of the badass ninja type. I can’t quite resist him either.
Between tripping over criminals and jugging Morelli and Ranger – Stephanie Plum definitely stays busy! I absolutely love reading about her (although, warning: most of the books are basically the same. Not much plot development from book to book. More episodic, really).
If you pick up this series expecting hilarious characters and a good time, you will definitely get it! I can’t wait to see One For the Money, which hits theatres in a couple of weeks.
