Sebastian St. Vincent Character Connection

One of the best plot lines in historical romance novels is the idea of a reformed rake. Unfortunately, a lot of authors don’t get it right. Their rakes aren’t rakey enough. Well y’all, Lisa Kleypas is not one of those writers. In her novel Devil in Winter, Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent is the epitome of a rake.

He isn’t one of those tortured heroes either – he is proud of his reputation! Before the Devil in Winter begins, he even tried to abduct an heiress for money!

“I’m Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent. I can’t be celibate. Everyone knows that.”

So yeah, I don’t think remorse is really a word you use in relation to Sebastian St. Vincent.

Then Evie Jenner walks into his home with a proposition. She wants to be free from her family – and she is an heiress. Therefore, their interests align. They can be married. Lord St. Vincent is a little wary because Evie is a known wallflower – with a stutter. But hey, they don’t have to live together for long. They can make it work, right?

Sebastian never imagined that he might not want to get away from Evie at the earliest possible opportunity. So what happens when an unapologetic rake suddenly finds himself desperate to please his wife?

You guys, St. Vincent is such a great character. You can’t help but love him, even when he is acting like a douchenozzle. You don’t have to read the first two books in the Wallflower quartet to love Devil in Winter, but it will give you a lot more background into the way Sebastian has acted for most of his life. It makes his transformation even more fun to read!

Evie, the unassuming wallflower, pretty much takes over all of this plans. At first, Sebastian can’t believe how attracted he is to her. Then, he finds himself jumping to defend her without a second thought and realizes his feelings run pretty deep. Seeing him change his ways to win her over? Priceless.

If you guys like a good redemption story – or just like your heroes a little tarnished, Sebastian St. Vincent is the character for you! He and Evie together make Devil in Winter one of the best romance novels I’ve ever read.
