A Notorious Countess Confesses by Julie Anne Long

I was really excited when I was contacted about reviewing A Notorious Countess Confesses by Julie Anne Long for two reasons. First: FORBIDDEN LOVE, you guys. A former mistress and a vicar – who could pass that up? Second, I read and loved What I Did For a Duke, a previous book in this series.

What this book did for me is cement that Julie Anne Long’s Pennyroyal Green series is absolute gold and that I need to catch up on reading all the other titles ASAP.

So, like I said: a mistress and a vicar. Oh, the sexy forbidden tones A Notorious Countess Confesses conjures up. Destitute Irish nobody turned Countess, Evie Duggan has done what she had to do in order to make sure she and her siblings could survive in the big bad world. Vicar Adam Sylvaine, relative of the wild Eversea bunch this series is based around, has toed the line when it comes to being a respectable leader of the church. When they meet, all bets are off!

INSTANT ATTRACTION is an understatement, you guys. I think the heated glances and “innocent” exchanges they began with steamed up even my windows. I love how things came together slowly for these two. Easy insta-love was not in the cards for Evie and Adam. But, no matter how much they tried at first – they just couldn’t quite manage to stay apart. Sigh. The actual romance was just as appealing as the sexytimes.

I really loved the non-romantic plot too. Evie is becoming a little too accustomed to being scorned by society. Her husband died far too soon after their sudden marriage, leaving Evie with the nickname of Black Widow (ouch). She is hoping that starting over in Pennyroyal Green will give her a chance to make friends and have an actual life. It won’t be easy though – so she enlists the local vicar to help her pave the way toward making respectable acquaintances. Awesome story, right?

A Notorious Countess Confesses is definitely a well-rounded historical romance, having a solid plot along with more than its fair share of swoon. Do I recommend picking it up? Definitely!

To Sum It Up:

  • A synopsis that includes the words forbidden love? YES PLEASE.
  • A nice blend of smokin’ hot attraction with sigh-inducing  romance gives this one a definite advantage in the romance novel market
  • Awesome plot involving the MC, Evie, looking for friends and acceptance after taking a lot of hard knocks in life
