Movie Review: One For the Money

Y’all, I just got back from seeing One for the Money and I thought I’d give you my thoughts.

One For the Money
One For the Money

First of all: I’ve always been a fan of the casting. I love Katherine Heigl. I definitely enjoyed everyone in the movie. The biggest bummer? Not enough Lula or Grandma Mazur! It has been ages since I read One for the Money, but I know they probably didn’t have that big a role in it. I’m just so used to them now (18 books into the series) that I missed seeing them in the movie.

When a Hero Comes Along…

Character Connection is hosted by Jen at The Introverted Reader, giving us a chance to talk about our favorite book characters!

Samwise Gamgee

You guys, SAMWISE GAMGEE! Why have I not talked about him on the blog before, seriously? Now, to be fair – I am mostly influenced by movie Sam, because I haven’t read the books since Jr. High. But still…he is like the Ron Weasley/Neville Longbottom of The Lord of the Rings.

Lots of Bookish News!

The Host Casting News

You guys, I love The Host by Stephenie Meyer a lot. I think the writing, plot and characterization are leagues above the level of Twilight (even though I didn’t hate Twilight either)…so if the fact that the same person wrote both things is holding you back from picking up The Host, don’t let it!

I have been really excited about the possibility of a movie based on the book for ages – and now it is finally progressing! The three main characters have been cast and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with it even though none of them remotely resemble the way I have always pictured the characters.

The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly

I read The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly after watching the movie. I haven’t dipped into the mystery/crime thriller genre in a long while and thought it was about time! Both the book and movie impressed me both in characterization and plot organization.

So, Mickey Haller isn’t your typical male hero that comes in to solve the crime or save the day. He is a defense attorney – he fights for the bad (*ahem* allegedly) guys. When the case of a wealthy realtor falls in his lap, he thinks things are finally going his way. He gets a case guaranteed to make him a big pile of money and he thinks – for once – his  guy might even be innocent. Of course, as I’ve come to learn, in the worlds that Michael Connelly writes in things are never what they seem – you have to go through a constantly twisting and winding journey to see where Mickey’s case will eventually take him.
