A Temptation of Angels by Michelle Zink

A Temptation of Angels by Michelle Zink is a very well-plotted historical paranormal novel. Really: I was impressed with the plot. Unfortunately – the characters? Not so much.

Friends with Boys by Faith Erin Hicks

Friends with Boys by Faith Erin Hicks is a really fun and quick graphic novel read. Seriously you guys, I loved Maggie, the protagonist, and her family.

Maggie has been home schooled by her mother her entire life, but now her mother has left and she is about to start her first day of high school. To say she is nervous would be a bit of an understatement. She doesn’t have much experience with friends – just three older brothers. The oldest is a great mentor to her throughout the book, he was always there when she need to talk. I thought that was awesome!

The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers

You guys, reading The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers is like going on a thrill ride. You never know what is around the corner – and it always manages to surprise you! Still, that being said: I was a little disappointed in this one.

Basically, Jocelyn’s brother, Jack, is missing (after he supposedly dies in a car accident) and she enlists their childhood friend Noah to help her search for him. Jack leaves clues for them all over the place, similar to games they played when they were kids. Things get blown up, set on fire, stolen, shot, bitten…you name it folks, it probably happens in The Vanishing Game.

Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne

Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne was one of my most highly anticipated titles for early 2012. The mix of paranormal, history and romance definitely had me super intrigued! Unfortunately: the book totally failed to deliver for me.

To be frank, the only thought I had about Harbinger while reading it was “wow. this is a hot mess.” I know that seems really mean and totally harsh – but really. Everything was so confusing, y’all! The more information I was given, the worse it got. Instead of feeling energized by the mystery and suspense, I was completely turned off and frustrated.

The Catastrophic History of You & Me by Jess Rothenberg

I put off reading The Catastrophic History of You & Me by Jess Rothenberg for awhile. Afterlife plots don’t always appeal to me. Well, let me tell y’all. This was an exception – because I loved it! I was totally blown away by both the plot and characters.
